Evil Dead (2013)

This is a remake of the 1981 movie by Sam Raimi, who is famous for the Spider Man movies. It is a classic story of five young adults who go to a secluded wooden cabin with the intent of helping one of them go cold turkey on her drug addiction. They find a book of evil that unleashes a demon that possesses the girl and wacky wild shenanigans start to happen. The action and suspense are well paced, the music is eerie, and the special effects are top notch. You can't help but squint during the gruesome blood bath scenes. The ending is slightly different from the original but overall it is pretty true to it. Not as silly as the original but still very fun and entertaining.

The To Do List

This hilarious movie stars Aubrey Plaza, Bill Hader, Rachel Bilson, Andy Samberg, Donald Glover, and Alia Shawkat (the daughter from Arrested Development). It is about a straight A student who finishes high school and has a summer job of being a life guard at a community pool. She wants to prepare for her future sexual experiences in college by losing her virginity, among other things. She creates a big list of various sexual acts including hand job, blow job, cunnilingus, orgasm, and intercourse. There are hilarious, belly laughter moments and the awkward events bring you back to your own beginner sexual experiences. The movie takes place in the 90's and many of the outfits and various objects make you feel very nostalgic. Well paced movie with a good sound track and a decent ending.

This is 40

This is another Judd Apatow film starring the family of Paul Rudd's character in Knocked Up. It shows the two daughters, now about 13 and 9, dealing with puberty and fighting, and the wife and husband dealing with sex and money difficulties. There are many funny moments and eventually things turn bad. Tension builds up, and there is a big fight with the husband and wife. There is great character development and some hilarious day to day occurrences that mostly everyone can relate to. It is a feel good family movie worth watching, although it is a bit long.

Machete Kills

This movie is a sequel to the Rodriguez & Tarantino Grindhouse movie Machete. It is very campy but is doing so on purpose. It has many famous actors including Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, and Lady Gaga. The movie is full of guns and machete action, tons of thugs and henchmen getting killed in various comedic ways, and is very imaginative. The bad guy has a nuke detonator implanted into his heart, so if he dies, Washington DC will get nuked. Machete (Danny Trejo) has to keep him alive while trying to find someone to disarm it. Again, if I was 12 years old, this would be one of my favorites. It has a bunch of laugh out loud moments and keeps you glued for more hilarious carnage and crappy dialogue. I look forward to the 3rd movie.

The Canyons

This is a movie starring Lindsay Lohan and James Deen about some actors and movie producers. James Deen plays a villain who is super rich and has jealousy issues. He does a pretty good job of making you hate him. There is a lot of sex and drama going on. There is plenty of T & A in the movie, and you do see Lohan plenty naked. I imagine that this movie has elements that are present in her real life. The writing and acting is kind of lame, but you can't help but continue watching. The movie was written by Brett Easton Ellis who also wrote movies like American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction, both of which I really enjoyed. This one takes itself way too seriously and makes you hate everyone in Hollywood. The ending was awful.

Kick Ass 2

This is the sequel to the awesome movie that came out in 2010 with Nicholas Cage and Chloe Moretz. The story picks up with Kick Ass trying to team up with Hit Girl to try and continue being vigilantes dishing out justice to criminals. The Red Mist becomes a new villain and begins hiring a big team of killers to do his evil bidding. Kick Ass joins a team of weak heroes after Hit Girl is forced to quit and go to high school. She gets picked up by the popular girls and there are some funny "Mean Girls" type moments. The movie had some good action, and also some sexy time scenes. The movie had some shots where they seem to focus in on Chloe's lips which seemed to be sexualizing a 16 year old, and while she is attractive, it is uncomfortable to watch. The ending was ridiculous and was a little bit cheap, and there was a surprise scene after the credits finished. Althought Jim Carey apologized that the movie was too violent, I thought it could have had more gratuitous gore, like in the source material comic book. Overall, a fun entertaining movie.

Fresh Meat

This is a comedy/action/thriller/horror movie from New Zealand. It has actors I've never seen before, but the cast was great. The movie started out with a lesbian school girl shower scene to quickly set the style of in your face delivery of raunchy content. The plot involves some criminals freeing a murderer and they escape the police by hiding in the house of a seemingly quiet and normal family. The family turns out to be cannibals and hilarity ensues. The special effects were pretty good and the dialogue was pretty decent. There were some laugh out loud moments and the ending was pretty good, although super ridiculous. Reminded me of Tarantino in a way. I recommend it for a fun silly laugh.

This is the End

This is a comedy film with many actors that play themselves. The actors are mostly from Judd Apatow films that we all know and love. They are all partying when suddenly the world starts to go nuts: big storms, the ground opens up to lava pits, and demons start appearing. Also, people start getting sucked up into the sky by blue beams of light. The movie is really funny and you will find yourself grinning from laughter non stop. There are many cameos by famous people including Rheanna, Emma Watson, and more. The end was kind of dumb but overall it was entertaining.

Lovelace

This was a biopic of the porn star, Linda Lovelace, famous for her 1975 movie "Deep throat". That porno was about a woman who was born with a clitoris in the back of her throat. The movie starred Amanda Seyfried and there were plenty of shots of her nude. She is quite attractive and I thought she did a decent job acting.  The first half of the movie is all about the good that came from her career, making her husband happy, she seemed to be enjoying the fame, and an upgrade in their lifestyle. The second half was about the dark side, all the abuse she endured by her husband, the rape, and her escape. Some scenes are hard to watch without getting angry at the villain, Chuck. It is interesting to look up what she looked like in real life, they did a pretty good job with casting, fashion, and styling. The pacing towards the end got weird and the ending was kind of anticlimactic.

Uncle Buck (1989)

This is an old movie that I have caught parts of here and there while growing up. It has John Candy and the Macaulay Culkin before he starred in Home Alone. This movie is about a brother-in-law that is asked to watch 3 kids for about 2 weeks. They give him grief and he is tough on them, especially the 15 year old girl who is eager to go out and lose her virginity. There are some good dialogue between various characters, especially during the awkward late 80's. Many of the themes are timeless, and you can't help but root for Buck. It is funny to see the yellow and crooked teeth that many people had back then. There are some corny parts (it is a family movie for both kids and adults), but also has some muttered sexual language that is pretty laugh out loud funny.

In Bruges

This movie was recommended as 'really good' and I checked it out. It has some likable actors in it, including Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes. Its about some hit men laying low in Belgium, in a famous town called Bruges, famous for it's fairy tale scenery: waterways, old towers, and brick roads. It is sort of a dark comedy, and there are some funny moments. The ending was pretty shocking.

Jewtopia

Funny movie about a Gentile guy trying to get help from his Jewish friend on how to act Jewish so he can impress a Jewish girl he likes, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt. The guy from Grandma's Boy plays the Jewish friend, Adam Lipshitz, and there were many laugh out loud moments. The movie is ridiculous and over the top, but still provided some entertainment.

I Spit On Your Grave 2

This movie was basically rape porn with revenge. It is pretty brutal and really horrific, and the actress really gave it her all. The terror of her situation is believable, and it is hard to watch many of the scenes. After about an hour into the movie, things start to turn around, and revenge begins to unfold. It is indeed sweet revenge.

Breaking Bad

Just finished the last episode recently, and boy, it delivered. This series was probably one of my top 3 favorite TV shows of all time. Well written, crazy characters, awesome plot twists, and you found yourself rooting for the bad guys. Highly recommended.

10/10

Pacific Rim

This movie was 2 hours of exactly what the commercials showed: big ass robots fighting huge monsters from the deep sea. If I was an 8 year old, this would probably be one of my favorite movies. The visuals were great, the robots and monsters well designed, the action was well choreographed, and there were some funny characters like Charlie Day's scientist character. Also, there was a lovable bulldog with a bouncy nut sac that they showed a few times. Mindless entertainment for young kids.

The Heart, She Holler

This is a little known show on Adult Swim that is on late at night, and each episode is about 11 minutes. It is unlike any other show I've seen before, incredibly original. It is eerie dark absurdist horror comedy. The show follows the recently appointed mayor of a red neck town, probably in West Virginia. The previous mayor, his father, left him a huge collection of VHS tape recordings telling him what to do if he ever gets in a bind.

Season 1: 8/10

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

Goku fights some powerful rabbit dude "Lord Bills: God of Destruction" who will destroy earth if he cannot be defeated. This all happens on Bulma's 38th birthday party. There were some funny scenes, but overall, this movie was lacking in substance. Seemed the audience was 10 year old kids.

Game of Thrones: S03E10: Mhysa

Season 3, Episode 10: Mhysa

This episode had a big task of wrapping up the season and following up to a great and shocking episode. The events were nothing special, and had more conversations than action. We saw Arya get her hands bloody after seeing so much horrible stuff, her blood lust finally boiled over. There was an intense scene with King Joffrey and his family, it makes me predict that instead of eventually being killed by others who were unjustly treated by him, he will be killed at the hands of his own family. Thought the ending was super cheesy.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Was very excited for the movie, and it definitely delivered. I really enjoyed the visuals, amazing props,  special effects, the action sequences, and the shout outs to historical trek lore. Some of the things that I did not like were having a white actor playing a Sikh character, the tasteless undressing scene (could have been done better), and my biggest complaint was the lack of philosophical/moral dilemma that usually comes with Star Trek. It was too simple: protagonist fights bad guy, wins, everyone is happy. I hope future movies have a little more depth than that. Overall a good movie though.

8/10

Edit: I rewatched this movie, and many things made me reconsider my previous score. It has some pretty bad writing. While the visuals are spectacular, the whole thing feels cheap.

Game of Thrones: S03E09: The Rains of Castamere

Season 3, Episode 09: The Rains of Castamere

Holy smokes this one was a shocker. This had the notorious scene called "Red Wedding". The episode was high quality, you could tell something was not right and it showed itself at the end. We see some Dragon Queen movement which is always nice, and some Arya and the melty face guy. Melty face is now turning from a evil bad guy into a sort of hero. Also, Jon Snow shenanigans take place, and he left his red head babe behind which really rustled my jimmies. We see that the long haired Stark boy is now basically Professor X except younger, and instead of a silver wheelchair he has a wheelbarrow/big oaf to carry him around.
Was funny to watch people's reactions on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78juOpTM3tE
